Berjaya Langkawi Resort – A Nature Escape

Berjaya Langkawi sits on a huge stretch of land – 84 acres, with most of it still covered in rainforest. You feel it immediately. Wooden chalets wrapped around greenery, the ocean on the other side, hornbills flying overhead, and monkeys moving through the trees like it’s their own village.

Right at the lobby, there’s a massive Christmas tree made from more than 5000 crushed cans. A simple, but brilliant idea. A resort this size produces something so meaningful from waste. I appreciated that the moment I saw it.

I arrived at Berjaya Langkawi to a warm welcome – friendly faces, a quick check in, and that easy Malaysian hospitality that doesn’t try too hard.

My room opened straight to an unobstructed view of the Andaman Sea, and that view was impossible to ignore. It felt good to stand there for a few seconds and just let the sea take over the space. I kept the doors wide open the entire stay. Not once did I touch the AC. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves hitting the stilts beneath me felt honest and grounding. Simple, but comforting in a way you only notice when you slow down.

Most mornings, I sat on the terrace with my book, watching birds skim the surface of the water, diving for breakfast and disappearing just as quickly. It became a quiet little ritual, and whatever the Andaman Sea breeze decided to bring in that day.

There was something very magical about that.

Wrapped by Green, Held by the Sea

What sets Berjaya Langkawi apart isn’t a lobby or a restaurant or anything man-made. It’s the land. The resort sits on a stretch of rainforest that’s still mostly untouched. Almost ninety percent of it left to grow wild, and you can sense that the moment you step outside your room.

The wooden chalets sit against a wall of tall trees, thick and full, almost as if they’re being held by the forest. Some mornings, a layer of mist hangs between the trees, and the whole place feels like a scene you weren’t supposed to stumble into. It’s raw, a little dramatic, and beautiful.

One side of the resort faces the ocean; the other disappears into the rainforest. Water bungalows stretch out into the Andaman Sea, while the hillside chalets blend into the slopes as if the forest grew around them on purpose. You don’t just see nature here, you live in the middle of it. It’s around you when you walk to breakfast, above you when the hornbills fly past, and beneath you when the monkeys move through the trees.

Dusky leaf monkeys move through the branches. Macaques wander freely. Birds call from every direction. The rainforest around the resort is full of wild fruit trees, so wildlife comes and goes naturally, without being pushed into view.

This is Langkawi in its raw, beautiful state.

Dining – Four Outlets, Four Different Experiences

Food is a big part of any stay, and Berjaya Langkawi has a good mix of outlets scattered around the resort. Each one carries its own little character – from breezy breakfasts to sunsets over the ocean. I didn’t try everything on the menu, but the places I did visit left their own small impressions, and together they made the stay feel more rounded.

Dayang Cafe – Breakfast With a Malaysian Soul

Dayang is a gorgeous open-concept space that wakes up early with the resort. Breakfast here feels lively without being chaotic. I loved how many Malaysian classics they had – fresh roti canai made on the spot, nasi lemak counters, mee goreng, curries, sambal, and all the flavours you expect from a local kitchen.

If you want “a taste of Malaysia” in one meal, this is where you get it.

There are plenty of options for Western palates too – eggs cooked to order, pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, juices, and even an Indian station suitable for vegetarians. It’s one of those breakfast spreads where you tell yourself you’ll eat light… but you definitely don’t!

Pahn-Thai Restaurant – Dinner Above the Water

Pahn-Thai sits right above the sea, with views that stretch across the ocean and the surrounding islands. The restaurant itself is beautiful – all warm wood, soft lighting, and that open-air feeling that makes every dinner feel a little special.

The food was good, but the standout moment for me was their signature spicy tom yum drink – flavourful, aromatic, and seriously spicy. A sip, a burn, and then another sip anyway.

It’s the kind of place you book for the view but stay for the atmosphere.

Beach Brasserie – A Gem by the Sea

This restaurant is such a pleasant surprise. It sits right by the beach with a view that could easily pass as a postcard – ocean, surrounding islands, and a beautiful coastline. The atmosphere is cosy, comfortable, and perfect for a slow dinner. Between the views, the warm service, and the soft lighting inside, the whole place feels like a well-kept secret, relaxed but memorable.

The Boat House Bar

I had my biggest cocktail here, served with a smile right in the sunshine. After two days of rain, the moment the sky opened up, I ran straight to the Boat House Bar to soak it in.

It’s a casual beach setup – sandy toes, relaxed mood, ocean right in front of you. The staff were warm, the vibe easy, and it felt like the perfect place to celebrate the sudden appearance of the sun!

Langkawi has some gorgeous beach spots, and if you’re chasing beautiful views, I’ve shared my favourite sunset places here.

Picnic by the Beach

If you ever come here, do this. Ask for the picnic basket. Head over to the resort’s private beach. Let the beach hold the morning for you.

Dayang Restaurant packed one for me: a woven basket, a mat, and the sweetest throwback to how Malaysians have always loved their beach picnics. It reminded me of being young again, when my family would pack whatever we had at home and head to the nearest stretch of sand for a simple, no-frills morning together.

Inside the basket: fruits, pastries, nasi lemak (of course), a good cup of coffee, and even fresh watermelon juice. Nothing fancy, just food that makes sense when you’re by the sea.

I found a quiet corner on Berjaya’s private beach, rolled out the mat they gave me, and settled in with my book. The waves became my background music. Birds moved around the trees behind me. The whole scene was simple – nothing curated, and it felt incredibly good.

It turned into one of those small, perfect pockets of the day.

Nature Walk with Iqram

Guest exploring the rainforest during a nature walk with Berjaya Langkawi’s naturalist.

One of the highlights of my stay was the nature walk with Iqram, the resort’s naturalist. He’s young, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. He talks about the rainforest with genuine love, not rehearsed lines. I admired that.

He taught us things I never knew. Like how cicadas create their sound by vibrating their belly. And that Malaysia has 113 species of cicadas – something I’ll probably remember forever now.

The walk itself was beautiful. We watched a sunbird having its breakfast, spotted hornbills gliding between trees, and even saw a colugo fast asleep on a branch, completely unbothered by people standing right beneath it.

I wandered, listened and learned, and noticed how Berjaya is genuinely trying to protect the rainforest they live in.

The Magic of Berjaya Langkawi

Despite the rain, I left Berjaya Langkawi with a deeper appreciation for how much nature still shapes this resort. The rainforest, the wildlife, the sea breeze, the quiet mornings – they are the real heart of this place. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves at night, the mist in the rainforest, the chorus of the birdsong, the warm staff, the nature walk, and that simple picnic on the beach with a book in my hand… that’s what I’ll remember most about Berjaya Langkawi.

I’m impressed by how Berjaya Langkawi keeps its rainforest, protects its wildlife, and lets the sea do its thing – the land is respected and left to grow wild. This is nature’s escape in the truest sense. A stay that feels grounded, quiet, and connected to the land.

I left Berjaya Langkawi feeling grounded and grateful. The land itself holds so much beauty.

If you’re planning a trip to Langkawi, I’ve also shared my article on Langkawi attraction that was published in Batik Air Malaysia and Batik Air Indonesia inflight magazine here.

If you’re someone who loves nature, calm spaces, and the feeling of being tucked between the rainforest and the sea, Berjaya Langkawi fits that mood perfectly. It’s a place where you can wake up to the calling of hornbills, fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, wander through real forest, enjoy good food, and find your own quiet corners throughout the day.
