It’s easy to see why Wapa Di Ume Ubud is one of Ubud’s most loved boutique resorts. It’s a luxury that still feels human. Ubud moves fast – scooters, chatter, rain that comes out of nowhere, but, turn off the main road and it’s as if the island takes a breath.
The moment we pulled up at Wapa Di Ume, everything changed. The traffic faded into silence. The air smelled of wet earth and frangipani. Rice fields opened up on both sides, and just like that, it felt as if someone had drawn a curtain between chaos and calm. Despite being so close to the centre, it’s like a different world here. Rice fields roll out like a green sea, jungle views form a natural partition around the resort, and there’s that quiet hum Bali hides in its gentler corners.
Anna looked at me and grinned. “Sugoi!” which means amazing in Japanese. We both burst out laughing, mostly because we couldn’t stop taking photos before even checking in. And just like that, I knew this weekend was going to be one for the books.
Our Pool Villa – Where the Fun Really Began
The first thing that came out of my mouth when we walked in was just, “WOW.”
The villa was massive with a four-poster bed, a living area that smelled faintly of flowers, and sliding glass doors that opened straight out to our private pool overlooking the rice fields. You could lie on the bed and see the view stretch endlessly, layers of green glowing under the sun.

And then there were the details. The bed was decorated with flowers so beautifully arranged I actually felt guilty when putting them away before bedtime. I swear, whoever did the decoration must have the patience of a saint. Inside, a floral bath had been prepared too – perfectly placed petals floating in the water. Candles were already by the side. One thing I realised, at Wapa di Ume, you don’t need a celebration to be welcomed with such thoughtful gestures.
Within minutes we were clicking hundreds of photos, laughing at how we couldn’t get enough of the view, the bed, the pool – basically everything. We didn’t even unpack. We jumped straight in, squealing like two teenagers.
The pool looked out to the rice terraces, and the afternoon light hit just right. Dragonflies hovered close, and the only sound was the water and our own laughter echoing off the stillness. At some point, we started dancing – no music, just the sound of our giggles and splashes.
It was pure, unfiltered joy.

Afternoon Tea at Wapa’s Lounge
By late afternoon, we wandered over to Wapa’s Lounge for afternoon tea. It’s set right by the infinity pool, the one that overlooks the jungle in front of it. The view was so beautiful it almost didn’t look real – layers of trees fading into the distance, the pool edge blurring right into green.

Afternoon tea here isn’t about fancy tiers or pastries with names you can’t pronounce. It’s simple and local – small traditional sweets, warm tea, and that perfect Bali vibe that makes you forget about time. We sat facing the jungle, chatting between sips, occasionally stopping mid-sentence just to stare at the view again.
With the jungle right in front of us, it felt miles away from the madness of Ubud’s macet. (bad traffic in Indonesian – a good word to master!)

BBQ Night at Mr Wayan
Dinner that night was at Mr Wayan, Wapa’s signature restaurant named after the Balinese word for “firstborn.” The restaurant felt warm and alive, filled with chatter, the smell of grilled meat, and the faint sound of music in the background. Plates arrived one after another – smoky satay, grilled fish, fresh salads, each bite a reminder of how Bali celebrates food. The food was amazing, but the real highlight was the cultural dance that night.

The dancers moved with such precision and grace, and somehow their joy was contagious. I was clapping along, and before I knew it, one of them pulled me in. I didn’t hesitate, of course. I was laughing, jumping, twirling like a kid who didn’t care who was watching. Anna was in stitches filming the whole thing, and I couldn’t stop laughing even after the music stopped.
That night summed up what I love most about Bali, how it invites you to let go, to play, to connect. Wapa Di Ume isn’t just serene; it’s alive. And in between the calm, you find these unexpected bursts of joy that make you feel human again.

A Quiet Night In
Back at the villa, the mood shifted back to calm. The night had that soft Ubud stillness – just the sound of crickets and water rippling in the pool. The air was cool, the lights dim, and the rice fields outside glowed faintly under the moonlight.
Anna and I stayed up chatting about life, travel, and laughing over how we’d probably peaked with our dance moves earlier that evening.

At some point, we decided it was time for a late-night soak. There were candles by the bath, so of course, we tried to light them for that “spa mood.” After several failed attempts and a lot of laughing, we gave up and called guest services for help.
A few minutes later, one of the staff arrived. The best part – not only did he light every candle perfectly, he somehow became our cameraman for the night! We couldn’t stop laughing as he directed us like a pro, making sure we had the best angles. It was one of those silly, happy moments that end up being the ones you remember most.
That’s the thing about Wapa Di Ume Ubud. Yes, it’s luxurious, calm, and beautiful, but it is also incredibly human. That night summed up everything I loved about Wapa Di Ume – the calm, the comfort, and the kind of laughter that keeps replaying in my head over and over again.
Morning at Wapa
The next morning, the view of the sunrise was spectacular. I was up at 5am, as always. There’s something about those early hours – the world still half asleep, the air fresh, the sky changing by the minute. I love sitting in silence, and in a place like this, I never want to miss it.
I went for a walk. Not a single soul around. Along the way, I spotted one of the Balinese staff carrying offerings toward the small temple inside the resort. That’s what I love most about Bali. How rooted the people are. Watching him place the flowers, light the incense, and bow his head made me smile. It was such a simple act, yet so full of meaning.
I wandered past the rice terraces, through the gardens where butterflies drifted lazily, and stood for a while listening to the jungle come alive. It was peaceful in every sense. Quiet, grounding, and completely unfiltered. Pure bliss.
And that, I suppose, is the Wapa effect – how a place so close to the chaos of Ubud can make you feel miles away from it. It slows you down, opens you up, and reminds you of what matters – laughter, stillness, and the simple joy of being exactly where you are.

The Spa Experience
The spa at Wapa Di Ume Ubud sits right by the jungle. It smelled of frangipani and jasmine – that soft, familiar Bali scent you somehow never get tired of.
The massage was slow and gentle, just what my body needed. No talking, no rush, just calm hands and the sound of the jungle outside. I dozed off before I knew it…
Afterwards, we sat there with tea, hair messy, faces half-asleep, just staring at the green outside. We didn’t say a word. I think we were both too relaxed to even move.

The Wapa Effect
It’s funny how Ubud can be so full of life – scooters, yoga mats, cafe chatter, and yet somewhere behind it all, you can still find peace. Wapa Di Ume Ubud is that pocket of calm.
Our days here were a mix of laughter and stillness – jumping into the pool like teenagers, dancing at breakfast, talking till midnight, and then sitting in silence the next morning watching the sunrise. It was fun, it was grounding, it was everything we didn’t know we needed.

What makes this place special isn’t just the beauty of the villas or the views of the rice fields . It’s the feeling that seeps into you while you’re there. The warmth of the staff, the scent of frangipani in the air, the sight of morning offerings being placed so gently at the temple – they all remind you that joy doesn’t have to be loud, and peace doesn’t have to be perfect.
That’s the Wapa effect. It holds space for both laughter and calm. For all the noise we carry, and for the quiet we forget to listen to.
