That is what led me to La Villa Langkawi, a modern hideaway I never knew existed. Travelling solo this time, I wanted more than a room with a view. I wanted to spoil myself. My 139-sqm one-bedroom deluxe pool villa (yes, really!) boasted spacious interiors, an open concept living area and kitchen, a four poster king bed, and a pool so private I felt I was the only one on the island.

The moment I stepped in, I unclenched. The water in the pool invited a slow swim. The living area invited me to just breathe. Solo travel, when done right, means doing less – not to do less – it’s simply about doing you again.

The villa doesn’t try too hard. Everything just feels right. The layout flows, the light moves beautifully through the space, and there’s a serenity that makes you forget how close you are to the main strip. It’s peaceful without being pretentious. The world outside hums with life, but inside, everything is calm, hidden away from the noise, just the way you want it.

What makes La Villa Langkawi even more special are the thoughtful touches that turn a beautiful stay into something memorable.

There’s La Yang Restaurant, within the resort compound, serving the kind of East-meets-West comfort food that makes deciding between traditional Prawn Curry and Chicken Gordon Bleu feels like the toughest decision of the day.

If you’re in the mood for pure indulgence (and honestly, who isn’t on an island?) The Leaf Spa is your cue to switch off. Soothing oils, soft music, and hands that work magic, trust me, it is the serenity that can easily send you drifting off to sleep.

And then there’s the 24-hour butler service. Every guest gets a personal WhatsApp contact, and yes, they actually reply almost instantly. Whether you need extra pillows, a dinner recommendation, or simply someone to fix your morning coffee craving, help is always a message away.

And my favourite? The two bright pink bicycles waiting at the villa entrance. There’s something about cycling down a tropical lane in Langkawi on a candy-coloured bike that makes you feel a little bit like Marilyn Monroe on vacation, if Marilyn had traded her heels for flip-flops and the red carpet for tropical beaches and rice fields.

It is all these small, clever details that make La Villa Langkawi feel more like a secret retreat than just a place to stay. It has its own kind of charm. It doesn’t need to shout luxury; sometimes it just winks.

Quiet Escape Near Pantai Cenang

Everything I needed was right there – breakfast delivered to my villa, a spa just steps away, and 24/7 butler support on WhatsApp.  Still, it’s nice knowing Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah’s cafes, bars and shops are only a short distance if you feel like a change of scenery.

La Villa really gets that balance right – close enough for convenience, private enough that you can switch off completely.

Travelling Solo, Re-defined

It wasn’t a surprise that I had fun – I always do, but at La Villa Langkawi, fun just came easier. I danced around to Madonna and Geri Halliwell, swam whenever I wanted, read by the pool, and had breakfast in bed. It was the kind of peace that fills you up, quiet but not lonely, calm but never dull. It reminded me of the same playful energy I felt at Shangri-La Rasa Ria, that effortless mood where everything just flows and you feel free in your own skin.

There was something about the villa’s energy that just felt right. Maybe it was the quietness, maybe it was the space, but I ended up writing for hours, nearly finishing a whole chapter of my book. It’s amazing what happens when you give yourself room to breathe.
