Travel Writer – About Me

A Malaysian Travel Writer Journey

Hi, I’m Shannim, a Malaysian travel writer who’s been chasing horizons since 1992. I’m a wild soul with a craving for adventures and unforgettable journeys.

Welcome to epicadventuress, space for stories that go beyond guidebooks , where the beauty lies in the raw, unpredictable rhythm of the road. This isn’t a guide to where you should go. It’s about how a place feels. These are the stories that shape the way I see the world, and maybe, the way you’ll want to see it too.

These journeys have taken me from the highlands of Papua, where men still wear traditional penis gourds and live by ancient customs, to the deep jungles of Mentawai in search of shamans who keep their animistic faith alive. From knocking on doors across the wide Mongolian steppe and staying in yurts with families who shared everything they had, to the rugged passes of Tajikistan, a country I stumbled upon by accident but remembered for life.

And beyond the wilderness, there have been moments of quiet luxury too: sleeping under a billion stars in the Sahara, sailing through the Greek islands on a private yacht, exploring its iconic coastline, and snowboarding in Japan, carving its world famous Japow. And then there was Kazakhstan, unplanned – arriving after ten raw days in the mountains of Tajikistan, suddenly swept into a music festival high in the snow-covered peaks. My journey has always lived in both worlds, the raw and the refined, and each one has taught me something different about wonder, resilience, and the endless beauty of this world.

Every destination deepens my work as a travel writer, shaping the way I see the world and the way I tell its stories. Each place has left its mark, teaching humility, courage, and the beauty of connection in its purest form. And through all those miles, one thing stays the same: the world always feels bigger, kinder, and more human when you take the road less travelled.

The skies were where it all began, back when I was a Malaysia Airlines flight stewardess from 1992 to 2007. That life opened the map, sparked the curiosity, and taught the rhythm of constant motion. The uniform’s long gone, but the spirit to travel never left.

Now I go wherever the wind leads, from remote mountains to hidden islands, to luxury retreats, collecting stories, moments, and sometimes, scars.

These journeys is a reminder that adventure isn’t always glamorous, sometimes it’s muddy, exhausting, confusing, breathtaking, and absolutely worth it. Some days end in a hut miles from anywhere, others in quiet luxury with ocean views. Both reveal something true about the world and about ourselves.

This is where the journeys find their voice, stories written from the heart, meant to make you feel a place, not just see it. In the end, what matters to me is telling stories that feel honest – stories that carry the warmth of strangers, the quiet lessons from the road, and the kind of wonder that keeps us exploring. If it stirs your curiosity, makes you want to pack your bag, or reminds you why the world is still worth exploring, then it’s done its job.

If you’re ready to explore the world in a whole new way, you’re in the right place. For me, travel isn’t just about ticking off bucket-list. It is about diving headfirst into the adventure, living boldly, and embracing every moment.

And finally, as a Malaysian travel writer, I’m always open to meaningful collaborations that allow me to tell deeper, more human stories – whether with tourism boards, hotels, or brands that value authenticity.
